Sony is a well known and successful company and for more than fifty years it has been in the business of “media manufacturing”. The Sony products are made from high quality material and therefore, they are more robust and reliable. Those enterprises that have medium to large data volumes, and need high speed and high capacity data backup medium can adopt the AIT backup tape format.

The Sony AIT-Turbo data tapes are best for data protection of medium & small enterprises. The native data storage capacity of the Sony AIT Turbo tapes range from 20 GB to 80 GB. The compressed data storage capacity of the Sony AIT Turbo tapes range from 52 GB to 208 GB. This increased storage capacity of AIT turbo provides the enterprises with enhanced output and performance. This AIT turbo tape format has proven its high scale and efficient performance. The AIT tape format was introduced in the year 1996. Sony AIT has the Advanced Metal Evaporated AME technology.

For the manufacturing of the AIT tape hundred percent pure cobalt is used. The evaporated cobalt is applied directly on to AIT tape’s base film. This enhances the “flux density”. On the upper side of the magnetic layer is a “lubricant coating” and a protective layer of “diamond like carbon DLA”.

The Sony AIT Turbo tape media provides the solutions in cost effective manner and also has inherited the “AME technology”, along with reliable and robust attributes of the AIT tape format. The Sony AIT Turbo tape format is the extension of the AIT family which has enhanced data transfer speed and recording capacity. The Sony AIT turbo tape format has the technical excellence and the powerful and cost effective attributes and features.

The AIT-Turbo drive is used to run the AIT-Turbo data backup media. The Sony AIT-Turbo format is useful and reliable for mid range and also the huge volume data applications. For the data protection of small enterprises, the Sony offers to its customer’s migration to the AIT turbo tape format which is based on the high performance AIT backup media technology. There is a “self cleaning” system in the tape drive of AIT format. Therefore, it is not necessary to use the “cleaning tape cartridge” frequently.

The AIT tape format also has the “Advanced Technology Attachment Packet Interface ATAPI interface”. Therefore, it is easy to install the AIT tape drive in standard computer systems. The tape head’s geometry reduces the pressure of tape and head. So, the head life of AIT drive reaches up to fifty thousand hours.
The (MTBF) Mean time between failures rating of the AIT drive is three hundred thousand POH. This MTBF rating is made possible with the help of the “Head Cleaner” system. This system is built in with the AIT tape drive. This head cleaner system activates automatically after reaching certain threshold of the tape errors.

The AIT tape drive has the performance enhancing AME technology in which pure cobalt is used. The cobalt is evaporated first and then it is sealed with DLC coating. So, the head cleaning technology along with the AME media improve the performance, efficiency and reliability.
